Course in Management of Hypertension (CCMH) - India

Public Health Foundation of India in Collaboration with the British & Irish Hypertension Society

The Course in Management of Hypertension (CCMH) is a joint certification program designed and implemented by the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) in collaboration with the International Society of Hypertension (ISH), the British & Irish Hypertension Society (BIHS), and the Center for Chronic Disease Control (CCDC). CCMH is a ten month course with once-a-month contact sessions, being conducted on a designated weekend at regional training centers across India. The educational grant for the program has been provided by Sun pharma laboratories limited. The program includes a core team of 10 national experts, 41 regional faculty and 28 observers. The evidence-based curriculum is prepared in consultation with the academic partners and the national expert panel, and is delivered in a standardized manner by cardiologists or medicine specialists in their respective cities. The course has an in-built monitoring and evaluation component for quality assurance.

The course has received an overwhelming response and over 600 primary care physicians have been trained in its first cycle. The program was launched on 24th of July 2016 across 25 centres in India. The successful implementation of the program prompted the State Governments of Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya in India to adopt the program for the capacity building of its medical officers under the National Health Mission.

The second cycle of the course (Oct 2017 – July 2018) will be implemented across 41 centres in India and is expected to train approximately 1000 primary care physicians.
